2009 Pacific Rim International Broomball Tournament - September 2009, Sydney, Australia

On behalf of Broomball Australia, I would like to invite you and your teams to the Pacific Rim International Broomball Tournament in September 2009 in Sydney, Australia.

The Pacific Rim tournament is open to all broomball players and teams from around the world and will be the second international tournament held in Australia. Sydney hosted the 2007 Pacific Rim tournament and we are looking to build on that successful tournament next year.

We are offering Men’s and Ladies divisions at this stage and anticipate we will run these divisions if the interest is there. The top Australian teams will certainly sign up for the tournament, and we are hoping to get many more teams to make the trip, not just from the United States and Canada but also smaller broomball countries like ourselves, such as Japan, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Finland, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Russia.

Here is the vital information of the tournament:

Dates: Tuesday 8th to Saturday 12th September 2009.

Divisions: Men’s and Ladies

Pre-tournament: Possibility of running a social ‘broomball holiday’ short ice pre-tournament in Townsville (tropical North Queensland, on the Great Barrier Reef) the weekend before the tournament, depending on interest. This will be confirmed in coming months.

Rules: Men’s division games will be played checking. Ladies division games will be played non-checking. IFBA rulebook and referees will be used (centre red line offside, 5’ x 7’ cages). Protective netting around the ice surface will be played as inbounds, resulting in faster-paced games with fewer stoppages.

Games Guarantee: TBC - depending on number of teams to enter, probably looking at 8-10 games per team.

Entry Fee: To be announced, will be similar to 2007: AU$1100 per mens team (US$880, CA$1020, EU660, JPÂ¥105,000); AU$900 per ladies team (US$720, CA$840, EU540, JPÂ¥85,000)

Hotels: Looking at approximately AU$33-$60 per night per person with options for family, quad, triple, double and twin share rooms. See hotel link on website for tournament hotel information.

Contact: Alan Jabs (Broomball Australia President) president@broomballaustralia.org or Saxon Hooper (Tournament Director) saxon@broomball.com.au. Further information is available on the official website, http://www.pacificrim.broomballaustralia.org , updated frequently in the months leading up to the tournament.

Your trip to Australia won’t just be a broomball tournament, it will be a broomball holiday. Broomball Australia is teaming up with Sydney tourism agencies to offer a wide variety of extra activities. Sydney has plenty to offer tourists – and as anybody who went to the World Championships knows, the Aussies know how to party!!

We have already signed up with popular Australia travel website, www.travel.com.au, who have agreed to organise everything from flights and accommodation to travel insurance. Our contact there is Lisa Barrett (e-mail: lbarrett@travel.com.au) and she’d love to hear from you.

To make this tournament a reality, we’d appreciate if you forwarded this e-mail along to other players in your teams and leagues. We want to put the word out to as many broomballers as possible, so please spread the word! If you know of anywhere online that we could promote the tournament, please let me know. There will be information posters and flyers available on our website soon for webmasters who wish to publish information on their websites (any publicity is greatly appreciated!).

If you’re interested in coming to Australia for this once-in-a-lifetime broomball holiday experience, please contact me today! All enquiries are encouraged, whether you have a team that is interested, or you're an avid broomballer who wants to come to Australia for a holiday and wants to find a local team to play with.

Cheers,

Saxon Hooper
